Prayer to obtain the glorification of Padre Pio:
"O Jesus, full of grace and charity victim for sinners so impelled by Your love of us that You willed to die on the cross. I humbly entreat Thee to glorify in heaven and on earth, the servant of God, Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, who generously participated in Your sufferings, who loved Thee so much and laboured so faithfully for the glory of Your heavenly Father and for the good of souls. With confidence, I beseech Thee to grant me, through is intercession, the grace of which I ardently desire."Padre Pio of Pietrelcina was born as Francesco Fornione near the small Our Lady of Grace Friary in Italy, and resided at this friary during most of his life. Padre Pio was one of eight children born to the Forgione rural family who was very pious and dedicated to Christ. In 1903, Francesco travelled to Morcone to begin a new life with the Order of Friars Minor, Capuchin. From that point on, Fra Pio studied at various localities to become a priest and he was ordained in 1910. During World War 1, Padre Pio was drafted into the military service despite a history of poor health which he endured during most of his life. In 1918, Padre Pio received the stigmata which appeared as physical signs of Christ’s crucifixion in the form of bleeding wounds on his hands, on his feet and on his side. Padre Pio became well known due to these stigmata of Christ, which gave to him the reputation of being a living crucifixion and the Holy Stigmatised Friar. Padre Pio also became known as a kind and gentle confessor and known for changing the lives of many by assuring them of the presence of God and of His never ending love of them. It is often believed the Padre Pio knew many things about those who came to his confessional before they spoke of anything to him. It is also believed that the ills of many were cured by the care and prayers of Padre Pio. Although Padre Pio tried to avoid publicity and notoriety, considerable donations continue to be sent to him and his monastery which resulted in the building of a hospital near the Our Lady of Grace friary. During his life thousands of people came to the village of Pietrelcina, the place of his birth, and still do. Padre Pio was canonised by Pope John Paul II in June of 2002.
